04. December 2017 · Comments Off on Advent Festival on Monday 4th December at 5pm in the hall · Categories: Festivals, Steiner education

The Advent Festival will be held today, Monday 4th December at 17.00. Everyone is warmly invited to share in this time of peace and tranquility which marks the beginning of, what often becomes, a very busy period in our calendar. It is also when we begin to look forward to the coming of the Christmas Light. In the dark stillness of the evening, children light a candle to the sound of gentle singing and music and place it in a spiral. Parents often comment on what a moving festival this is.

SAINT MARTIN’S DAY LANTERN FESTIVAL

THURSDAY 9TH NOVEMBER 2017 AT 17.00

PRELOVED SALE & CAFE IN THE HALL

15.30 – 16.30

Martin joined the Roman Army at his father’s behest and, though a reluctant soldier, rose to the rank of Tribune within three years. He is remembered as the one who cut his cloak in half in order to clothe a cold and hungry beggar. After this act of charity he dreamt that he saw Christ wearing the half – cloak.

Martin left the army and went to Poitiers to become the disciple of Bishop Hilary. Although Martin would have preferred a quiet and humble life, the people of Tours wanted him to be their Bishop and had to trick him to get him into the cathedral to be consecrated. One story tells that he hid in a goose shed and the people came with their lanterns to find him.

IONA SCHOOL was delighted to participate in World Cerebral Palsy day on Friday 6th October 2017.

Class children raised awareness of cerebral palsy by coming in to school dressed in green.

They also baked cakes (some were green!) and sold them at break time and after school and have donated all the money to Rutland House School for Parents.

They raised a smashing £91.30 in total!
